I’ve eaten 3 new types of fungi this year:
- Craterellus fallax – Black trumpet
- Stropharia rugosoannulata – Wine cap stropharia
- Cantharellus lateritus – Smooth Chanterelle
My favorite has beenthe black trumpet. I tried the chanterelle about a half an hour before writing this. It was tasty but I only tried a small amount since it is my first time tasting them. I definitely noticed a fruity, apricot aroma when I smelled the fresh mushrooms. I checked for insect damage and had to sacrifice a few but threw the rest in a pan with some butter and sauted them.
I’m proud that we have been getting more adventurous with fungi. I’m probably close to 10 species that I have foraged in the wild and eaten.
